STUDY SITE

Whitewater Ranch is 30 minutes east of Eugene, near Leaburg Hatchery. The property is a total of 1,800 acres and closely follows the McKenzie River. Map 1 shows that Goose Creek intersects organic blueberry fields and was not initially purposely vegetated. In previous years, the Riparian Restoration teams have planted various species of native plants along Goose Creek in an attempt to improve water conditions, increase biodiversity, and provide pollinator habitat. The vegetation provides habitat for several species in the creek and in the surrounding area while also shading the creek, decreasing the temperature, improving the water quality and oxygen levels. In the spring of 2017, we continued the planting of native species.
